Introductory seminar of the “LIFE EcosystemServices” project

An introductory seminar of the project “LIFE EcosystemServices” was successfully held on February 26th, 2015 in Ķemeri. The organisers of the seminar – the Association “Baltic coasts” in cooperation with project partners Nature Conservation Agency and Saulkrasti county municipality introduced the attendees with the main goals, objectives and expected outcomes of the project, as well as the planned creation of ecosystem services evaluation methodology for Latvia and its approbation in two pilot areas – Saulkrasti and Jaunķemeri. The guest lecturers presented the concept of ecosystem services and ecosystem valuation principles in relation to sustainable and responsible society development.

The seminar included a practical workshop part where participants were offered an opportunity to slip into the roles of spatial planners and prepare concepts for the development of imaginary projects within the coastal area, balancing the interests of environmental, social and economic sectors.

The participants of the seminar were coastal municipality officials, spatial planning professionals, representatives of nature protection governmental agencies and NGOs, as well as entrepreneurs.
